Please note that the garnet version is not available except on special order (contact me if you would like one)
This ring inspired by the Croatoan Mystery (Read below). It is almost a victorian mourning inspired tribute to the lost souls of Roanoke Island. It is part of my "Killing Moon" Collection.
It features a beautiful rose cut gemstone (Onyx, Hessonite garnet or Grey/black Moonstone) set in re-worked vintage sterling silver vine entwined setting. It is large and cocktail size but so elegant and eerie. The sterling silver setting comes in a fully oxidised finish, but i am happy to do it in an antique matte or antique polished finish (Just leave a note in the comments box when checking out.
The ring is 3.7cm long, 2.2cm wide and 1cm tall.
Croatoan Mystery:
~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1587, the English, led by John White and financed by Sir Walter Raleigh, made their second attempt at setting up a colony on Roanoke Island, which now lies just off the coast of North Carolina in the USA. The colonists disappeared, however, during the Anglo-Spanish War, three years after the last shipment of supplies from England. The settlement is known as “The Lost Colony,” and the fate of the colonists is still unknown. When Joh White returned to the island in 1590, there was no trace of anyone, the cabins had been taken down, the livestock had also disappeared. All that remained was two graves, and the word "Croatoan" carved in to a post, and "CRO" Carved in to a nearby tree. There are many Theories as to what happened to the 118 settlers. My favourite is this one: The Croatans themselves believed that the island had a spirit and, if angered, this spirit had the power to change those who offended it into the form of animals, trees and rocks. So perhaps this is the explanation – that none of the people affected really disappeared but were simply transformed.
Interesting facts: Edgar Allan Poe was brought to his death bed in a state of delirium whispering the word “Croatoan”. The same word was found in other places at other times: scribbled in the journal of Amelia Earhart after her disappearance in 1937, carved into the post of the last bed that the celebrated horror author Ambrose Bierce slept in before he vanished in Mexico in 1913, scratched on the wall of the cell that the notorious stagecoach robber Black Bart inhabited before he was released from prison in 1888 never to be seen again, and, most disturbingly of all, written on the last page of the logbook of the ship Carroll A. Deering when it ran aground with no one aboard on Cape Hatteras in 1921 (not that far from what was once known as Croatoan Island)
This finish has a dark grey hue and is fully oxidised with liver of sulphur that will rub away over time to an antique finish with wear (you can maintain oxidisation with a few tools, check here) Here are some examples of this finish;
Antique Matte:
This finish has been oxidised, but most of the oxidisation has been rubbed away so that the silver (or bronze) shows through and the crevices have an antique time worn look to them. The metal isn't shiny but has a matte feel. It will slowly shine up over time with wear. Here are some examples of antique matte finish;
Antique Polished:
Like antique matte, the piece has been oxidised, and rubbed away to have an antique like finish, but this option has a shiny finish rather than matte, and the silver (of bronze) shines through just a bit more. Here are some examples of antique polished jewellery;
Bright Silver Polished:
This finish has no oxidisation, and has been polished to a bright white silver shine (or bronze/gold depending on your custom metal choice).
Although this option isn't usually available in my listings, if you ask for it I am happy to do it on nearly any of my items.
Jewellery Sizing
Ring Sizing:
For Ring sizing I use US ring sizes (You can convert other countries ring sizes HERE).
The best and only effective way to get the absolutely correct ring size is by either getting your finger sized for free at any Jewellers store, or purchasing an inexpensive Ring Sizer. You want to make sure the ring sits firmly and doesn't wiggle around too much.
Please do not measure your finger with string, or a measuring tape or any of the ways it says online is a simple way to size rings. This never ever produces correct results, and some of the rings I make cannot be resized.
Some Rings in my store fit better when sized down quarter to half a size or for wide band rings - sizing up. It will say in each listing if you should adjust your sizing. If your ring size isn't listed please leave a note with your correct ring size while checking out and I will be happy to accomodate you.
Necklace Length:
Below is a rough guide to necklace lengths (Please note this is obviously on a thin/average sized model - if you are larger (like me) the necklaces will sit between 1-4 inches higher than pictured, alternatively if you are smaller they may hang down lower.)
Bracelet Length:
To correctly measure your bracelet length - first measure securely around your wrist with a measuring tape, and if you run between sizes - go up to the next size. For example if your wrist is 7 1/2 inches, get an 8 inch bracelet. if you like them a bit looser rather than snug, I would say go up an inch from your original length. If you need help with sizing just email me.
Love it. Probably one of my favorite pieces of jewelry I own and I am a bit of jewelry junkie. It’s big but comfortable. It’s actually more substantial than I imagined. Love love the leaves and all the details and the garnet is just so dark, sexy and mysterious. Already thinking about getting another from LSD. I really appreciate and enjoy the craftsmanship in this one and I am sold.
PS: It arrived relatively quickly from NZ to USA during covid and US postal service debacle/slowdown in about a month.
Love it!!!
My father actually got this for my birthday. It is beautiful, as expected. I've been wanting a piece from LSD Jewelry for along time & I finally have one!!! Yay!
Another amazing ring from Charlotte. Labradorite is one of my favorite stones and I can't get enough of the purple labradorite. The setting is really well done, I love the way it looks like vampire teeth are holdng the stone. I took Charlotte's recommendation on sizing and it is a perfect fit. Very, very happy with my purchase.
I've been eyeing these earrings for YEARS. I'm so glad I finally have a pair. I got the Rainbow Moonstone and they offer a little blue glow, enough to grab your interest. I love this design, it really reflects my personality It's a good mix of classic, witchy and moody. I especially love that you can choose the finish of your chosen pieces. I chose the oxidized finish. I feel it makes the blue flash stand out more. I love ALL of Charlotte's designs. If I could, I'd buy them all! I already have 10 pieces from this artist and am looking forward to continue growing my collection. I also want to add that the customer service is AMAZING! Seller is so very kind, ATTENTIVE, and just a wonderful person PERIOD. Don't hesitate to purchase what you've been eyeing. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED❣️ Thank you again, Charlotte ❣️🙏 I am and forever WILL BE a loyal customer. You're designs are so very unique and beautiful.
Such a beautiful ring that it feels as though it is alive! The setting and band twists like branches or arms or the roots of a tree or any growing thing, into the teeth that hold the beautiful stone in place. The points and the top and base of the ring as well as the setting are are like teeth, but also they serve to give the shape of the ring a beautifully antique feel. It's the perfect mix of gothic beauty and Romaantic (as in the era) beauty. Just exqutsite design and creation! Many thanks and huge recommendations!
The attention to detail on the wax work performed to create this piece is stunning. Such a wonderful nod alchemical symbology, this sulphur pendant is simple yet elegant.
I can't believe this beauty was on sale! This ended up being one of my most worn pieces I have from LSD. It's so unique and strange. Very dark, has an edge to it. I love it
The grey moonstone used in LSD's jewelry is so stunning yet understated. I got a necklace with the same stone to wear with this ring and love pairing them
